The Ridgetown Skating Club held its first skating session in January of 1955. The original name was East Kent Figure Skating Club. In 1962 the name was changed to the Ridgetwon Figure Skating club on Friday, April 1, 1955. The East Kent Figure Skating Club presented the first ice carnival “Television Around the World” under the direction of instructor if Miss Lily Coeburn Dulong. Admission to the show was .50 cents.
For 70 years, the Ridgetown skating club has offered many programs for recreational and competitive skaters to achieve their goals in either singles, pairs, and precision/synchro skating. Many skaters started their development in our CANSkate program. Skaters have completed school tests in figures, dance, free, skate, artistic syncho, pairs, and skills. The first Skate Canada Gold Test completed in our club was a dance and achieved by Paul Sales. Our small town club has had many skaters achieve goal test in the above disciplines, and we congratulate you all!

Throughout the time the club has been in existence many skaters have completed representing our club from Regional to National events. Our club has had two former members achieve success at the highest levels of competition. In 1984 former club member Robert Burk and his partner Karen Taylor (whose photo in on display in the Ridgetown arena lobby). This pair won the world professional ice dance event in Spain and in 1991 and 1992. Ridgetown's own Janice Yeck and partner Scott McDonald along with Jodynne Higgins and Sean Rice were gold medalists at the Canadian championships in the senior fours event. More recently Natalie Robinson & her partner Chase Heidt , dance pairs and Alyssa Robinson former Ridgetown Skating Club member and her partner Jacob Portz are competing at the Canadian Championship Level as well. Addisyn Veccia represented Ridgetown at the Provincial StarSkate Championships for 5 years in a row !
Our club also has been represented by many talented skaters at sectionals, divisionals, Canadian, Sectional championships, Provincial Championships and Challenge Cup events in both singles and pairs.

Our coaching staff during the past 70 years has played an integral part of the development and success of skaters both recreationally and competitively. From CANSkate to our senior level skaters, our coaches have devoted many hours, sharing their knowledge and talent with our skaters as they learn the fundamentals of ice-skating to achieve their individual goal. It is interesting to note that many of our former skaters have pursued their passion of skating, becoming coaches here at home with the club, or with other clubs throughout the province.

In the world of Figure Skating, Dennis Silverthorne would be the most recognized coach from our club. Dennis coached skaters at Nationals, Worlds, and Olympic events and was inducted into the skate Canada Hall of Fame in 2007.
From 1955 to present day, the Ridgetown Skating Club has been fortunate to have many volunteers that have committed their time and knowledge as club presidents serving as board members and parent volunteers. Our skaters and coaches both past and present, recognize and thank you for the many hours that you have committed to the sport of skating in our community. From 1955 today thousands of hours have been generously have devoted to our membership, ensuring that all skaters, regardless of age and ability have the opportunity to learn to skate. Together, skaters, coaches, parents, and volunteers. We have created 70 years of club history with friendships and memories. That will last a lifetime.
